Hi, my name is Bobby Newman, I’m the founder and CEO of Newman Intervention & Addiction Services. I am a certified intervention professional, as well as an internationally certified drug and alcohol counselor.
I did start out in the drug prevention field and I am a certified prevention specialist as well, but what I want to talk to you today about is finding a drug rehab in Oklahoma. We get a lot of calls from people from Oklahoma that are looking for treatment. I happen to be from Oklahoma, I’m from Southern Oklahoma, I grew up in a very small town, and I was actually born in Oklahoma City and then I moved to a small town in Southern Oklahoma, and that’s where I graduated high school.
There was a lot of things that happened in that little small town that led me to actually go to treatment about 20 years ago, I’ve been clean for 20 years after completing a very successful program, but it wasn’t after about 12 to 15, well, I think it was about 15 years of addiction and problems that went along with that. I’m lucky to have made it to the point of being fortunate enough to go to rehab because I almost ended up in prison.
And then obviously there was several near death experiences, and I’ve had numerous friends of mine that have died from some sort of drug or alcohol related accident. A lot of people will say that, but I’ve had anywhere from being drunk and jumping into a farm pond and breaking their neck, to dying in car wrecks, to dying of liver failure or heart attacks, or some sort of drug overdose. One friend of mine passed out, fell asleep, burned up in an apartment. So there’s a variety… So I’ve been on one end or the other for this thing, and I can help you with your loved one. If you yourself are struggling with addiction I actually could help you find the right treatment program, and we will definitely hook you up with some resource of some sort to get you into treatment.
There’s a lot of people that are addicted to drugs in Oklahoma. And honestly, I was an avid marijuana smoker years ago, and I was an advocate for legalizing and smoking marijuana. But today I’m not so much because I see what’s happening for our kids today. And the truth is, is people become less responsible even when it starts with alcohol or marijuana, and now Oklahoma’s moved onto medical marijuana. A lot of the small towns have medical marijuana dispensaries, and having been there and done it myself I know what it’s like, and you can’t legislate morality but you can put a little bit more common sense and have people take a look at these things, and hopefully that they don’t go down the path like I did, and needing treatment and lucky to have been able to make it into a treatment program.
As a certified prevention specialist I’m associated with a lot of colleagues around the country that are very informed about what drugs do and about addiction, and I definitely would be more than happy to talk to you.
